Excerpts from Tom’s Better Choices Questionnaire
“I support a “buy local, buy Canadian” strategy. While only allowing Canadian suppliers is problematic, the strategy needs to emphasize proactively sourcing and informing Canadian suppliers of upcoming purchasing requirements and providing as much guidance in the procurement process as possible to best position them to be successful.”
“Through efficiency and effectiveness measures many areas can be reduced without affecting level of service. This should be Council’s primary goal in its financial governance. One particular area where expenses need to be contained and rationalized is Police.”
“I believe all Region FT and PT employees earn at least the Living Wage. I think we need to give an advantage to contracted firms when they do as well.”
“The Region is a renowned leader in housing program. We should continue to set aggressive targets and lobby senior levels for assistance. Leveraging with the private sector has worked well and should continue. We need to continue to provide professional support to Co-ops in the management of their properties and assist with applications for new units.”
